It means #1 issues are under-represented, as people tend to pick up the first issue off the rack before they subscribe to it. Also remember this list is measured by number of subscribers, not revenue. WITHOUT FURTHER ADO: 1.  Black Panther #3 by Ta-Nehisi Coates and Brian Stelfreeze Ta-Nehisi Coates series  has been a phenomenon, with more than twice as many pulls as any other book on this list, and a bunch more subscribers than it even had when issue #2 dropped.  The second printings of the first two issues have been huge sellers as well, and were waiting for the third printing of issue #1 as I type this. Issue #3 had a two-week delay, but fans are still clamoring for ithopefully thats not a recurring problem. Typically, issue #4 is when subscription numbers level off for our existing subscribers, because anyone whos not reading by that point is probably waiting for the collected edition. We can always counteract that by getting new people to sign up as subscribers, though, and Black Panther has done a great job of bringing in folks who wouldve never signed up for a comic book subscription before. 2.  Paper Girls #6 by Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang Paper Girls returns from hiatus for its second arc! In the absence of  Saga single issues, BKVs other new series picks up the slack. And much like  Saga,  Paper Girls has done a great job of getting trade-waiters who picked up the vol. 1 collection last month to jump onto the single issues for  the new arcone day, Marvel and DC will catch up to Image in their brilliant trade-flipper game. This series is moving in a very different direction than it was initially marketed, with a time jump from 1988 to 2016 for the new issue! At this point, Brian K. Vaughan has built up enough trust among his readers that I imagine everyone will stick around for the ride. 3.  Ms. Marvel #8 by G. Willow Wilson, Takeshi Miyazawa, and Adrian Alphona Unlike  Black Panther, which is so much in a league of its own that Marvel isnt making it tie into their Civil War II summer event at all,  Ms. Marvel is drawn into the big crossover like everyone else. The publisher believes  Ms. Marvel readers are invested enough at this point that they can draw them into the drama of the greater comic universe. This issue is also the first in a while to feature BOTH  of the regular series artists in the same issue! Last year when Marvel forced  Ms. Marvel to reboot itself with Secret Wars, it confused many of the more casual readers, but luckily the series gets to continue regularly while Civil War II is going on. It hits the right balance of drawing readers in to the event if they want to learn more, but letting others just continue on  Ms. Marvel alone if theyd prefer. 4.  The Wicked + the Divine #20 by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie The fourth story arc chugs along. Gillen and McKelvie recently announced the first  Wicked + Divine one-shot that will run between arcs, focusing on an earlier pantheon of godswe cant wait to see how it turns out! For another month in a row, both  Ms. Marvel and  WicDiv hit their series highs in terms of subscription numbers at our store; perhaps the rising tide of  Black Panther is floating all boats, and some of the people who just came in for Ta-Nehisi Coates are sticking around for some of the industrys other heavy hitters. 5.  Bitch Planet #8 by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Valentine de Landro ITS BACK. FINALLY. FOUR MONTHS LATER. After multiple delays,  Bitch Planet hits stands again at last, and fans are still eatin it up. Were at a point where readers dont really expect this book to arrive in a timely fashion anymore, and theyre okay with that. Years down the line when everyones reading this in the collected editions anyway, no ones going to remember how long it took for each issue to come out. Bitch Planet has kept itself fairly trade-waiter-proof with its amazing backmatter.  The essays at the end of each issue are what make the series go from good to great for many readers, so theyre willing to wait out the colossal delays. Issue #9 is currently listed for an August 10 release, so we already know were gonna wait two months for the next one, although issue #10 after that is apparently dropping only a month later on September 7. Well see if Team Bitch Planet sticks to that schedule 6.  Saga  vol. 6 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples We cant overstate how huge  Saga is. It tops our lists when the single issues come out, and its the only book whose  TRADE PAPERBACKS make our monthly top ten articles. These lists are ranked by unit numbers, not dollar saleswhile most of the books in this article  are $3.99,  Saga vol. 6 manages to take our Number 6 spot at a whopping $14.99 price point; if we organized this list by revenue, itd easily dethrone  Black Panther. Trade paperbacks always sell well, and Image books in particular rely on their trade sales over single issue sales, but most readers will just pick them up off the shelf at the store rather than subscribe to themthe fact that so many people subscribe to  Saga volumes is testament to what a force it is in the industry. And of course, the book features an ad at the end for the upcoming issue #37, continuing  Sagas tradition of flipping trade-waiters to single issue buyers better than any series ever published. 7.  Batman #1 by Tom King and David Finch The first DC book to crack our top ten list in almost a year of tracking these numbers! DCs Rebirth reboot has been a runaway commercial success, and of course their flagship franchise Batman rises to the top. We underestimated how many people would come in for these booksalmost every Rebirth book so far has sold out on day one. DC underestimated themselves, too, as we have to wait on second printings for every single book to get any more of them. Tom Kings Batman has some big shoes to fill after Scott Snyder and Greg Capullos character-defining five-year run that may  go down as one of the greatest Batman runs of all time, and unquestionably the greatest highlight of the New 52 era. King did great work on  Grayson and  The Vision, but this is the big leagues. 8.  Batman: Rebirth one-shot by Tom King, Scott Snyder, and Mikel Janín Most of DCs new series have Rebirth one-shots before their main stories get started, so this came out two weeks before  Batman  #1 as a bridge between the New 52 era and the Rebirth era, and a passing of the torch from Scott Snyder to Tom King. The biggest hurdle facing DCs new books is the double-shipping schedule. As Ive written about in regards to  Star Wars in these articles before, any time you force a comic to come out more than once a month, youre sacrificing quality for quantity. DCs new books will try to get around this by featuring two alternating main artists on each seriesthis might work for Greg Ruckas  Wonder Woman, which will alternate between two different storylines with each issue, but for  Batman, it could be jarring to see one story change art style with every  chapter. King brought along his fantastic  Grayson collaborator Mikel Janín for half the issues, but the other half will be drawn by the serviceable David Finch (fresh off his critically-panned  Wonder Woman run), so well see where this goes. 9.  Island #8, edited by Brandon Graham and Emma Ríos; stories by Xulia Vicente, Michael DeForge, Ben Sears, and Simon Roy Island falls much lower on this list than it usually does, but not because its losing readersits just keeping a steady pace while a bunch of other new stuff gains readers. Youll notice some other mainstays like  Star Wars dont appear on the list at all this month, and theyve got the same (good) problem: keeping steady numbers, while we gain a bunch of new readers for other new series. Issue #8 features the first mainstream work by indie comics darling Michael DeForge, as well as the finale of Simon Roys fantastic space cannibal story Habitat, which has gotta be one of our all-time favorite  Island comics  so far. Its no surprise that the popularity of  The Force Awakens has pushed the popular hotshot pilot into the drivers seat; when  Rogue One hits theaters at the end of the year, expect a plethora of even more new titles to reach new heights for  Star Wars comics. Again, the strength of Marvels recent  Star Wars books is the surprising restraint theyve shown in not flooding the market.  Poe Dameron is given space to breathe and find its audience because there arent fifteen other  Star Wars books being shoved down readers throats at the same time. Its the midway point of 2016, so as promised, heres our graph of the biggest books of the year so far. Keep in mind were not disclosing hard numbers because *~proprietary information and business secrets~*, but here ya go! Everything else becomes a blur once  Black Panther joins the fray; you can see how much bigger it is than everything else we sell. The weird little handoff between  Saga and  Black Panther in April is misleading, as  Saga has just been on hiatus since then; I dont think all those readers jumped ship to read BP. Itll be interesting to see how much farther behind it is when it finally comes back in August! I hadnt made the connection before that  Paper Girls and  Bitch Planet both left and came back in the exact same monthsalthough this was an intentional hiatus between arcs for  Paper Girls, while it was a delay in the middle of the story for  Bitch Planet. Youll see  Saga is on this chart in blue for the single issues, and in deep purple for the trade paperback. Itd be unfair to count these as one series, since the majority of readers only read one format or the other, rather than both.  Sagas the only comic popular enough to have this problem! Ms. Marvel may be the most consistent book in this time frame, a nice combination of being a super-popular book while still consistently coming out every single month.  The Wicked + the Divine, which has almost exactly the same number of readers, should be coming out consistently almost every month now until the end of its run, so that might be the most interesting long-term matchup on this chart. You can see a bunch of new stuff pop up right at the end of the chart in June; this midsummer paradigm shift led by DC Rebirth will be fun to watch in the second half of the year. It’s supposed to test how well you’re going to perform in college, no matter your future major. That’s not an easy thing to do. So the readings have to include all different topics, the math has to require all sorts of different skills, and the writing sections have to test you on grammar, style, and how well you can form an argument—pretty much all of what makes up â€Å"good† writing. If you’ve been preparing for the test, you know that there’s a whole lot to cover on the SAT. And that takes time. More questions means more accurate scores The SAT is trying to get at an accurate score to show your strengths and weaknesses, so it needs to have a lot of questions on each topic. If I give you a question about a mathematical function, for example, and you get it right, does that mean you’re capable of teaching a course on functions? Or even that you fully understand the concept? On the same note, if you get it wrong, does that mean you’d make a mistake on any function question? The more times they quiz you on the same types of problems, the more likely they’ll get an accurate reflection of your skills. It’s like any science experiment; the more data, the more reliable the conclusion. The College Board isn’t trying to be evil So this isn’t just a sneaky way of testing how much stamina you have, even though it does end up doing that. It’s actually kind of necessary. So even though they’re going to change the SAT in the upcoming years, I’d put down a fat stack of cash that says it’ll still be over three hours. Hey, it might even be longer still.

Pre-Steps for preparing for FMEA. Step 1: Select a process to evaluate with FMEA. This is where a process to be evaluated with FMEA is carefully selected. When selecting a process, special attention should be paid to the complexity of the process selected. A process that is not so large and complex is preferred to a large and complex process. For example, select ‘prevention of pressure sore’ instead of ‘pressure sore’ as a process to evaluate with FMEA. This is because evaluating pressure will involve causes, prevention, treatment and risks factors. Step 2: Recruit a multidisciplinary team. Serial Killer Michael Ross, The Roadside Strangler

The story of confessed serial killer Michael Ross is a tragic tale of a young man who came from a farm he loved, and a childhood filled with parental abuse, although he could not remember the experiences. It is also a tale of this same man who, driven by sexually violent fantasies, brutally raped and murdered eight young girls. And finally, it is a tragic tale of a judicial system that is riddled with imperfections in its responsibility of deciding life or death. Michael Ross - His Childhood Years Michael Ross was born on July 26, 1959, to Daniel and Pat Ross in Brooklyn, Connecticut. According to court records, the two married after Pat had discovered she was pregnant. The marriage was not a happy one. Pat hated farm life, and after having four children and two abortions, she ran off to North Carolina to be with another man. When she returned home, she was institutionalized. The admitting doctor wrote that Pat talked of suicide and of beating and striking her children. Michael Ross sister has said that as a child, Ross took the brunt of his mothers anger. It is also suspected that an uncle of Ross who committed suicide may have sexually molested Ross while babysitting him. Ross said he remembered very little about his childhood abuse although he never forgot how much he loved helping his father around the farm. Strangling Chickens After his uncle had committed suicide, the job of killing sick and malformed chickens became eight-year-old Michaels responsibility. He would strangle the chickens with his hands. As Michael got older, more of the farm responsibilities became his, and by the time he was in high school, his father depended a lot on Ross help. Michael loved farm life and met his responsibilities while also attending high school. With a high IQ of 122, balancing school with farm life was manageable. By this time, Ross was exhibiting antisocial behavior, including stalking young teenage girls. Ross College Years In 1977, Ross entered Cornell University and studied agricultural economics. He began dating a woman who was in ROTC and dreamed of someday marrying her. When the woman became pregnant and had an abortion, the relationship began to falter. After she had decided to signup for a four-year service commitment, the relationship ended. In retrospect, Ross said as the relationship became more troubled he began to have fantasies that were sexually violent. By his sophomore year, he was stalking women. In his senior year at college, despite being engaged to another woman, Ross fantasies were consuming him, and he committed his first rape. In that same year, he also committed his first rape and murder by strangulation. Ross said afterward he hated himself for what he did and tried to commit suicide, but lacked the ability to do it and instead promised himself he would never hurt anyone again. However, between 1981 and 1984, while working as an insurance salesman, Ross had raped and killed eight young women, the oldest being 25. The Victims Dzung Ngoc Tu, 25, a Cornell University student, killed May 12, 1981.Paula Perrera, 16, of Wallkill, N.Y., killed in March 1982Tammy Williams, 17, of Brooklyn, killed Jan. 5, 1982Debra Smith Taylor, 23, of Griswold, killed June 15, 1982Robin Stavinksy, 19, of Norwich, killed November 1983April Brunias, 14, of Griswold, killed April 22, 1984Leslie Shelley, 14, of Griswold, killed April 22, 1984Wendy Baribeault, 17, of Griswold, killed June 13, 1984 The Search for a Killer Michael Malchik was assigned chief investigator after the murder of Wendy Baribeault in 1984. Witnesses provided Malchik with both the description of the car -- a blue Toyota -- and the person who they believed kidnapped Wendy. Malchik began the process of interviewing a list of blue Toyota owners which brought him to Michael Ross. Malchik testified that during their initial meeting, Ross enticed him to ask more questions by dropping subtle hints that he was their man. By now, Ross was living in Jewett City as an insurance salesman. His parents had divorced and sold the farm. During the interview with Malchik, Ross told of his past two arrests on sex offenses. It was at this point Malchik decided to bring him to the station for questioning. At the station, the two talked like old friends: discussing family, girlfriends, and life in general. By the conclusion of the interrogation, Ross confessed to the kidnapping, rape, and murder of eight young women. The Judicial System: In 1986 Ross defense team moved for a dismissal on two of the murders, Leslie Shelley and April Brunais, because they were not murdered in Connecticut and not within the jurisdiction of the state. The state said that the two women were murdered in Connecticut, but even if they hadnt been, the murders began and ended in Connecticut which granted the state jurisdiction. But then a question of credibility came up when the state produced a statement by Malchik claiming that Ross gave him directions to the crime scene. Malchik claimed that somehow the directions were left out of statements, both written and taped two years earlier. Ross denied ever giving such directions. Evidence in Rhode Island The defense produced cloth matching a slipcover in Ross apartment which was found in the woods in Exeter, Rhode Island, along with a ligature used to strangle one of the girls. The defense also produced a taped statement of Ross offering to take the police to the crime scene, although Malchik stated he did not recall such an offer. Possible Cover-Up Superior Court Judge Seymour Hendel exploded during the closed hearing, accusing the prosecutors and police of purposely misleading the court with lies. Some of the counts against Ross were removed, however, the judge refused to reopen the suppression hearing on Ross confession. When sealed records were opened two years later, Hendel retracted his statements. In 1987, Ross was convicted of the murders of four of the eight women he confessed to having killed. It took the jury 86 minutes of deliberations to convict him and only four hours to decide on his punishment -- death. But the trial itself faced a lot of criticism in regards to the Judge who presided over it.   Imprisonment During the next 18 years that he spent on death row, Ross met Susan Powers, from Oklahoma, and the two were engaged to be married. She ended the relationship in 2003 but continued to visit Ross up until his death.   Ross became a devout Catholic while in prison and would pray the rosary daily. He was also accomplished at translating Braille and helping troubled inmates. In the final year of his life, Ross, who had always been opposed to the death penalty, said he no longer objected to his own execution.  According to Cornell graduate Kathryn Yeager.  Ross believed that he had been forgiven by God and that he would be going to a better place once he was executed. She also said that Ross did not wish for the victims families to suffer any more pain. Execution Having waived his right to appeal,  Michael Ross was scheduled to be executed on  January 26, 2005, but an hour before the execution was to take place, his lawyer obtained a two-day stay of execution on behalf of Ross father. The execution was rescheduled for  January 29, 2005, but early in the day was postponed again as a question into Ross mental capabilities came into play.  His lawyer said Ross was incapable of waiving appeals and that he was suffering from death row syndrome. Ross was executed by lethal injection on May 13, 2005, at  2:25 a.m., at  Osborn Correctional Institution  in  Somers, Connecticut.  His remains were buried at the Benedictine Grange Cemetery in Redding, Connecticut. After the execution, Dr. Stuart Grassian, a  psychiatrist  who had argued that Ross was not competent to waive appeal, received a letter from Ross dated May 10, 2005, which read Check, and mate. You never had a chance!

The French took to the streets with a series of riots, culminating in the event that Daumier turned into a lithograph that moved beyond caricature and turned public’s eyes on the horrors that the oppressed, and repressed silk workers of St. Martin experienced ? rst hand. The attack took place on April 14, 1834 when the French National Guard, under the command of King Louis Philippe (October 6, 1773 August 26, 1850), retaliated on civilian silk workers. Rue Transnonain, created in the same year of the attacks, added fuel to an already growing tension between France and the French working force. The violent acts of the French National Guard, while not highly supported or lauded by the public, still would be deemed as acceptable under today’s rules of engagement. The artist’s political agenda, and anti-government opinions, breached upon propaganda and highly in? uenced the print’s style in its attempt to escalate the protests themselves. Rue Transnonain, viewed 2 by many as a reaction to the patriotic sentiments of a Frenchman to his countrymen, may, assuming the French National Guard were well within their right to react, be equivalent to domestic terrorism. ! The Rue Transnonain lithograph is housed in a 33. 9cm x 46. 5cm frame and portrays a dramatic interpretation of the carnage left in the wake of the French National Guard when they dispatched twelve citizens1 occupying a living quarters built for the silk weaver workers. The lithographs shows the deceased silk weavers laid about the ? oor of their home. The foreground features empty space, as if the viewer is standing in the doorway seeing the work of the French National Guard for the ? rst time. The most prominent ? gure is that of a male adult worker, lying dead on the ? or next to his bed, surrounded by two other adult bodies assumed to be his family members. The adult male is seen with his head loosely tilted to the right, with his limbs draped lifelessly around him. Pain and defeat emanates from the silk worker, as he lays, legs naked, with his bedclothes thrown up onto his torso. The French Guard did not even give this man the dignity to die gracefully or humanely. While the silk worker’s body is the most immediate focal point, the most powerful aspect of Rue Transnonain lies below him. The bloody dead body of the man’s infant child, resting beneath him within the pool of blood created from both man and child, is seen as sheltered by his body. Further, on the far left of Rue Transnonain is what appears to be a slain woman, somewhat shrouded in darkness, outside of the light projected into the room by an open doorway. The far right features yet another slain elderly man, possibly the man’s father, lying on his back, mouth partially open. The woman is shoeless. The child has on his night cap. On the right side an overturned chair is visible, suggesting not a struggle, but an effort to either create a defensive position, or a frantic escape from incoming bullets. Regardless of the events that actually transpired in the silk worker’s house, Daumier portrayed it as an unjusti? ed massacre. The evils of the French government coming down on the innocent working poor. A government that will not only take one’s life but treat the human body as a piece of clutter. A government whose lust for the blood of its own people outweighs its desire to keep the peace. 4 ! In 1830, King Louis Philippe took over the French throne through an agreement between the liberal bourgeoisie, the people of Paris, and the republicans. He was known as the ‘Citizen King,’ and was believed to be making changes to France that would bene? t all classes, including the poor. He succinctly summarized his public policy when stating, â€Å"We will attempt to remain in the just middle, in an equal distance from the excesses of popular power and the abuses of royal power. 2 The people of France initially enjoyed the purported new republic, but they soon discovered that the monarch’s words were just that. Philippe’s actions quickly moved beyond diplomacy and turned to favors. His friends and followers were empowered—and made very wealthy. Philippe and his advisors were intelligent enough to enact new laws that, on the surface, appeared to help all of the French citizens, but his and his followers political longevity was the driving force. One example that shows a blatant act of selfpreservation was the laws Philippe enacted that doubled the amount of citizens that were allowed to vote. The creation of these new laws, while appeasing the general public and their want to be heard, actually only extended voting rights from the very wealthy upper class to the slightly less wealthy upper class. 3 Though only a small element to the inevitable revolution that would take back France, Philippe had drawn the line between who was important, and who was expendable. It was Perier who facilitated the work contracts (railway, mining, etc. ), and began issuing them to friends and supporters. These contracts led to the workers losin g their right to petition for increased pay, decreased work hours, and a lack of other humane bene? ts. These laws and contracts favored the wealthy, and did little to nothing to assist the poor working force. The neglect of the work force inevitably created protests, and in April of 1834 these protests turned into the aforementioned riots. On April 14th, 1834 during the chaos of an ever-growing riot, a French police of? cer was killed by sniper ? re originating from a silk weaver’s home. The silk weaver’s home was raided by the French National Guard, killing all twelve inhabitants, and inspiring Daumier to create his Rue Transnonain as a way of communicating and chronicling his interpretation of the event. In Rue Transnonain, Daumier chose to conveniently omit the dead police of? cer from his lithograph. He turned a satirical cartoon into a piece of ? ne art, obfuscating the government intrusion and instead focusing on the horri? c and identi? able aftermath. Daumier’s contribution to the revolution is so highly in? uenced by his hate for the government he possessed even before Philippe/Perier began making changes to the existing labor laws, that his true intentions are clouded. Daumier’s ideals were not the same as the patriots who laid down their lives for a better France. Daumier was not a patriot. Daumier spread propaganda with highly stylized scenes of terror without illuminating the viewer to any preceding event. The government immediately identi? ed Daumier and his piece’s impact as detrimental to the political regime, but their attempts to censor it only made it more poignant to the public when they observed it. ! Honore Daumier is known today as a revolutionary artist. His lithograph Rue Transnonain helped spark the French Revolution—ripping the power of the people out of the tyrannical hands of the throne, and placing it into the cradle of a democracy.
